Abstract

Deer hemal nodes were studied by scanning electron microscopy after gold coating, and by transmission electron microscopy after paraformaldehyde-glutaraldehyde fixation and epoxy resin embedding. A hemal node had numerous small subscapular sinuses with expanded trabeculae. The sinus was lined by endothelial cells and was supported by networks of reticular cells that had an euchromatim-rich nucleus and many cytoplasmic processes and fibers. Lymphocytes and macrophages were observed in the stroma of the sinus. In a few macrophages, fragmented pieces of erythrocytes were observed. The parenchyma of the hemal node had a few lymphatic nodules with many lymphatic and a few erythrocytes.
